Guitar Chord Theory - Augmented Triads

Augmented Triads are created by taking the same notes that are in a major triad and raising or sharping the 5th of the chord. So the formula for an augmented triad is 1-3-#5. #= sharped note

In the scale of C major C D E F G A B this would equal C (1st), E (3rd), and G# (5th sharpened)

Lets try another exercise...

In the key of G major name the notes of a G diminished triad.

Key of G major = G A B C D E F#

G minor triad = G(1st), B(3rd), and D#(5th #)

Very good! Now here's some review...

Major = 1,3,5

Minor = 1,3b,5

Diminished = 1,3b,5b

Augmented = 1,3,5#
